A kingdom for a stage

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 5, 2008, 2:22 PM
O for a Muse of fire, that would ascend

The brightest heaven of invention,

A kingdom for a stage, princes to act

And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!

Then should the warlike Harry, like himself,

Assume the port of Mars; and at his heels,

Leash'd in like hounds, should famine, sword and fire

Crouch for employment. But pardon, and gentles all,

The flat unraised spirits that have dared

On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth

So great an object: can this cockpit hold

The vasty fields of France? or may we cram

Within this wooden O the very casques

That did affright the air at Agincourt?

O, pardon! since a crooked figure may

Attest in little place a million;

And let us, ciphers to this great accompt,

On your imaginary forces work.

Suppose within the girdle of these walls

Are now confined two mighty monarchies,

Whose high upreared and abutting fronts

The perilous narrow ocean parts asunder:

Piece out our imperfections with your thoughts;

Into a thousand parts divide on man,

And make imaginary puissance;

Think when we talk of horses, that you see them

Printing their proud hoofs i' the receiving earth;

For 'tis your thoughts that now must deck our kings,

Carry them here and there; jumping o'er times,

Turning the accomplishment of many years

Into an hour-glass: for the which supply,

Admit me Chorus to this history;

Who prologue-like your humble patience pray,

Gently to hear, kindly to judge, our play.

~William Shakespeare [Henry V]

I don't remember...

...was middle school or high school really this bad?

I am in the thick of it right now. I have 4 full time classes. In fact one of my on-line 16 week classes didn’t get enough people signing up, so they rolled it into an 8 week class instead. I found out when I was given an exam the first week of school. My statistics professor apparently downs an entire pot of coffee immediately before she comes to class and spends the entire session doing a hummingbird imitation in the front of the room. I’m going to up my intake just so I can keep up mentally. Women’s History is fine, but I worry we’ll never actually get to an exam as the prof prefers to spend class time chatting up current events. <grumble, grumble> I know it’ll be history later, but I’m most interested in what’s history now. Drama… I haven’t a clue. I suppose I owe the prof a couple of play analysis, but other then that I haven’t heard a peep from her.

The play is at the “We’re all gonna die!” stage which is par for the course at this point in time. We had an intervention with our director and she may actually turn out to be competent after all. I reserve the right to blow her off until she actually READS the original script, but I digress. I am 75% off-book. I should be 100% but I’m still massively ahead of some of the others so <shrug>. If I screw it up, I know the producer will disembowel me with her fingernails for an encore, so I’m working on it.
If any one in interested in the show check out our newly-redesigned webpage.[link]

Some nice pics of my beloved theatre as well

So far work has remained low-key but steady. The giant in-flux of new work is projected to show up the week the play opens and my 8 week class ends. The universe hates to see me bored I guess.

Otakon and a meme

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 13, 2008, 9:21 AM
I survived!!
And really, what more needs to be said? I left for Baltimore at the obscene hour of 4am on Thursday morning due to getting the cheap tickets and having to leave from an airport in another city. Had a lay-over in Minneapolis, which is the first time I’d ever been there. Nice Pretzels! The beer was good too.
Checked in to the con on Friday as the lines were insane on Thursday night. We went and had Chicken and Waffles instead (thank you Py! Still squeeeee-ing). The lines on Friday did stretch around the block, but the pre-reg line moved pretty fast. It seems that 4 times as many people pre-regged as they had expected. Friday was the non-costume day, for which I am grateful. We watched lots of AMV’s and plotted the events of Saturday.
Saturday I wore my Eva Friedel costume. I’ve been working on it for awhile and I was very proud of it, particularly the underskirt which was all by hand. The girl I borrowed the sewing machine from wanted it back before I had bestirred myself to get it all done. The anime it was from is ‘Magnetic Rose’ which is quite a bit older. I honestly didn’t expect many people to recognize it, but three of them did. Since one was one of the costume contest judges, I was content.
I did enter the contest but I have no idea how it went. Sadly the winner had to be present at the Masquerade that night but my hostess had to leave early. Her grandmother suffered a stroke while we were there and we didn’t want to make things any harder for her. I’m watching the site to see who did win, since I’m curious.
Sushi was fun and nummy, JTran managed to totally wow our waitress with his art. If I can get them, there will be pictures of the Attack of the Giant Fried Banana Slug soon.
Sunday we skipped the con and drove down to WV to see a friend who had wanted to make it but was on call for his work. Much fun was had and we discovered The Eagle’s Nest restaurant which was yummy enough to need a re-visit at some point.

When I got home, this meme was waiting for me, so I shall enjoy it as well. I stole it from :iconprofessorblues: and goodness knows where it was before that.
Comment and I'll respond with one or more of the following:

Tell you why I friended you or what I think about your art
Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc.
Tell you something I like about you
Tell you a memory I have of you
Ask something I've always wanted to know about you
You're a stranger that I should get to know a little more, cos you found this journal!!

In return, you SHOULD post this in your journal! I'm not forcing you to, but you should, it'll be fun!

Deep End Again

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 31, 2008, 7:46 PM
In case anyone was wondering where I've been (which I doubt, but I'm feeding the ego here thanks), I have fallen off the deep-end.

1) I have the lead role in my acting troupe's most recent play. We have a month less then usual to rehearse and we're doing a play that's an hour longer then normal.

2) I've signed up for a full semester at my local community college in the hope of getting just a bit closer to a degree.

3)I'm working a 40hr week at the moment, but that may need to ramp up into the 80hr range as my work has just recently exploded in all kinds of nice, but not-raise-inducing ways.

4) I'm about to enter into a nasty, prolonged and vicious custody battle for my kid.

I'm also headed to Baltimore for Otakon next week and competing in my first ever cosplay contest. Here's hoping the corset can bribe the judges.

Sooooo...if you do happen to see me around, it'll be a miracle. Also, please say something friendly. I need the (im) moral support.

WHOOOOOOSH!

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 7, 2008, 8:03 AM
Did ya'll hear that? That was the month of June just zipping past like somebody lit it's tail on fire. Not kidding, I felt the wind as it went by.

So, end of June I got to indulge my love for all things travel and hop a plane to Chicago. My best friend lives up there, so it wasn't my first time, but I did get to experiance lots of nifty new things. I went up to enjoy a City of Meet-up, mostly hosted by DJ Shecky and DJ OneHitWonder from the CAPE (Virtue's finest).[link]
Even if you don't listen to on-line radio, check out the PSA's they have on their site. Very, very funny and all COH/V related.
The meet-up was lovely, the people were wonderful, the pancake was the size of my head, and the photos were all staged. No...really...honest...anyway...Yeah, I'm making plans to go back next year if they'll have me. You should go too.

We're into July now. I just had a very nice four-day weekend with my honey. Sent the kid to the grandparents for a month so it's just us and the cats in the house.Seems alot quieter with the kid gone but there are remarkably fewer dishes to wash. This may be because we spend rather alot of our time on-line when we don't have anything else to look after. I may possibly be coming up on my second level 50 in 4 years of playing =P

Had another audition yesterday for "Taming of the Shrew". I'm honestly not sure if I want the lead in this one or not. If I get it that's a personal confirmation that I'm a competent actress. Three lead roles for three auditions. However, it may also mean it's typecasting since the last two roles were a bit on the shrewish side too. Darn you Shakespearian comdies and your funny women!

It's time to start looking into firming up my classes for next semester as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I don't *think* I have to take a math class this go-round. I'm hoping I can take a drama class and just hand the teacher a copy of my script and say "grade me the night of the performance." Probably won't happen, but I have hopes.

So? What did you do on your summer vacation?
